Well, I survived my first week of teaching. Very surprised at how incredibly wealthy these students are and how their personalities and attitudes are altered due to their riches.
Each family usually has a driver and/or a nanny so the children are not used to having to pick up after themselves and they carry that trait with them to our school. When they are done eating, rather than throwing their trash away, they simply just remove themselves from the table and carry on. While walking down the hallways when they are finished drinking their liquids or eating their snacks they just throw the bottles and wrappers on the floor and it doesn't even phase them in the least bit. It is hard for me to grasp so I try to keep in mind that the children are not throwing their garbage on the floor because they are lazy but rather because they are in the habit of having others pick up after them.
I'm very proud to work under our principal who truly wants to build these children into responsible and caring young adults. She is a firm believer that no matter how wealthy one may be, this is still our only planet, and we must take care of it in order to survive. These children are young and with the right direction, their habits of having others pick up after them can be changed. This is a goal at our school and is by far an important goal that I will strive for as well. I am happy to work with this heart warming staff to teach these children education and life values.
